A man accused of running a fraudulent immigration services scheme targeting a Kenner resident has been arrested and extradited from Florida.
Authorities say David Ardila-Garcia was taken into custody in Fort Myers and extradited to Kenner on Feb. 26 in connection with the case.
According to investigators, the victim began searching for legitimate immigration assistance in January 2025 for herself and her children. During her search, she encountered a Facebook page titled “Abogado de Inmigración,” which claimed to offer legal immigration services.
Police say the page promised assistance obtaining Social Security numbers, work permits and eventual U.S. citizenship. However, when the victim later contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, she discovered that no immigration applications had been filed on her or her children’s behalf.
Investigators allege the victim lost more than $6,000 in the scheme.
The investigation further revealed that Ardila-Garcia allegedly posed as a legitimate immigration services provider, used what appeared to be a U.S. Department of Homeland Security logo, and collected electronic documents under false pretenses.
He is now facing charges including bank fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, computer fraud, false personation and theft.
