DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man is in the Scott County Jail on a secured $50,000 bond after police say he and accomplices tried to steal copper from air conditioning units at the former Thunder Bay Grille.
According to criminal complaints filed in Scott County Court, Davenport Police responded to 6511 N. Brady Street on Nov. 25 at 11:30 p.m. Officers discovered Chad Cason, 38, hiding inside an air conditioning unit. Cason allegedly gained access to a restricted rooftop area and attempted to remove copper, causing more than $50,000 in damage.
The complaint states Cason acted alongside two others. Officers found empty bags nearby, suspected to be intended for carrying the stolen copper. Cason was also carrying backpacks filled with knives, drills, saws, flashlights, gloves, and tool batteries.
Four air conditioning units were reportedly recently damaged, with estimated costs of at least $10,000 per unit, based on prior repairs.
Cason faces felony charges including third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, and four counts of first-degree criminal mischief, as well as a misdemeanor count for possession of burglary tools. He is being held on a $50,000 secured bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 5.
