Daru police seized 48 kg of ganja and arrested Chandan Kumar during a special drive near the Shivane River under Tatijharia police limits on Friday.
According to SDPO Baijnath Prasad, acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap and intercepted the accused while he was allegedly transporting the contraband from Siliguri to Ranchi. The seized ganja is estimated to be worth several lakhs in the illegal market.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Daru police station, and further investigation is ongoing. During interrogation, Chandan Kumar reportedly admitted to smuggling the drugs in collaboration with Vishwanath Sarkar, the vehicle owner from Siliguri, and Mintu Singh from Ranchi. Police are working to apprehend other members of the drug racket.
