MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A man was arrested by Memphis police on January 10 after allegedly leading officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle that had been used in several crimes across both Shelby County and DeSoto County.
The vehicle in question was reported stolen on December 13 from the 1000 block of Holmes Road, with the victim indicating that someone they knew had taken the car. Authorities soon learned the stolen vehicle was believed to be involved in a string of robberies in Memphis and Southaven, Mississippi.
On Friday, January 10, Memphis police located the stolen vehicle near South Montgomery Street and Kerr Avenue. Upon confirming the car matched the description of a vehicle linked to recent armed robberies, officers attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver, identified as 51-year-old Darrick Flowers, allegedly fled the scene, prompting a high-speed chase.
The pursuit ended when Flowers lost control of the stolen vehicle at the I-240 and I-55 junction, where he was taken into custody. An unknown woman who had been in the passenger seat reportedly fled the scene and remains at large.
Flowers faces charges of vehicle theft and two counts of evading arrest. His bond has been set at $75,000. He also has three pending cases, including charges of theft, aggravated assault, and robbery, along with 11 misdemeanors and three felony convictions on his record.
It is unclear at this time if Flowers will face charges related to the crimes in Southaven.
