NEW HAVEN – Police arrested two 18-year-olds from New Haven, Darnell Scurry and Claymont Arrington, on Monday morning in connection with the theft of two cars.

According to a news release from the New Haven Police Department, officers discovered an Audi Q7 in the area of Diamond Street near Dyer Street, recognizing it as a vehicle that had previously fled from officers. The car had been reported stolen from Westport. The vehicle appeared unoccupied at first, but detectives soon noticed an Audi A5 with a misused license plate park nearby. That car, too, was found to be stolen.

Police observed an occupant of the A5 enter the Q7, and as officers approached, the A5 quickly sped off. Authorities identified the driver as Claymont Arrington, who had been involved in previous encounters with law enforcement. Darnell Scurry, identified as the driver of the Q7, also attempted to flee, striking a detective’s vehicle and hitting a tree before surrendering.

Shortly after, Arrington was located near Jackson Boulevard and Rockview Circle and arrested. In addition to charges of theft of a motor vehicle, Arrington was charged with reckless driving and interfering with an officer. Scurry, meanwhile, was also charged with failure to obey an officer’s signal.

Both Arrington and Scurry are being held on $50,000 bonds.
