DeSoto, Texas — A 20-year-old man with an active felony warrant was arrested Saturday night following a dangerous high-speed police pursuit through DeSoto.
The suspect, Dario Franco Ramirez of Cedar Hill, was driving a black Chevrolet Corvette when police attempted to stop him after being alerted by the Flock Camera System at around 9:45 p.m. on July 12. Ramirez, who was wanted on a felony warrant for evading arrest in a vehicle issued in Grand Prairie, fled the scene.
The pursuit began near a local bowling alley on Northgate Drive, where officers first located the vehicle. Ramirez turned off the Corvette’s headlights and taillights in an attempt to avoid detection, leading police on a high-speed chase through city streets.
Police eventually deployed spike strips near N. Hampton Road and Pleasant Run Road, successfully puncturing the Corvette’s tires. Ramirez continued driving into a residential area on Hilltop Circle, where he attempted to abandon the vehicle on private property. A resident quickly reported the suspicious activity, allowing officers to arrest him without further incident.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered it had been fitted with a license plate-flipping device, a gadget used to obscure or change plates to avoid identification. This device is illegal and classified as a Class B misdemeanor under Texas law.
Ramirez was taken into custody, and his vehicle was impounded. Additional charges related to the pursuit and the illegal device are expected to be filed.
