SIDNEY, Ind. — A Wabash man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into two homes and stealing a vehicle, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
Daniel Ybarra Jr., 42, of 658 W. Main St., Wabash, faces two counts of residential entry and one count of auto theft, all Level 6 felonies.
On Aug. 16, deputies responded to a burglary report at a home on State Road 13. The homeowner told investigators she was inside when she heard her front door open. When she went to her garage, she found Ybarra hiding under her vehicle. After she confronted him with a mallet, Ybarra fled the scene on foot.
Roughly nine hours later, on Aug. 17, another deputy responded to a vehicle theft on State Road 14, where a homeowner discovered his car missing and an interior door left open.
Police later found the stolen vehicle on West Channel Road. During a Sept. 9 interview, Ybarra admitted to entering the woman’s home and stealing the car, saying he only wanted to “look around” before taking the vehicle and driving to the Sellers Lake area.
Ybarra was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 26.
