PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — Authorities say more arrests have been made in connection with a wire theft ring that disrupted emergency services across the Midcoast.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Mullens, Penny Jones, and Justin Hardesty are facing felony theft charges for allegedly cutting public utility wires and selling the material to metal recycling yards.

Deputies say the suspects used a ladder and hook to pull down communication cables in Jefferson, Whitefield, and Somerville, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages and impacting essential services, including 911 calls and internet access.

The investigation has been ongoing since October, and three additional suspects were arrested in May for similar crimes in the area.

Authorities continue to monitor and investigate these types of thefts due to their serious impact on public safety and infrastructure.
