FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas — A Houston man, Daniel Lugo, 29, was arrested Friday after authorities discovered approximately $245,000 worth of cocaine during a traffic stop in Fayette County.
The stop occurred at 11:17 a.m. near Engle when Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith pulled over a 2018 Honda van traveling eastbound on I-10 for a traffic violation. Smith noted what he described as “conflicting travel patterns” from the driver, raising suspicion.
When Lugo refused consent to search the vehicle, Schulenburg Police Department canine Officer Bryon Powe and his drug detection dog, Semper, were called in. The canine unit successfully located the cocaine inside the van, resulting in Lugo’s arrest.
Lugo was taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
