MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – A Texas man is facing multiple charges after being arrested, released, and then re-arrested just 30 minutes later—this time at the sheriff’s own office.
Authorities say Damien Lewis was initially taken into custody at 7:50 a.m. Thursday for public intoxication. He was processed and released from the Montgomery County Jail around 3:30 p.m.
But Lewis didn’t stay free for long.
Just half an hour after his release, officials say he was caught trying to break into vehicles parked at the sheriff’s office, including Sheriff Doolittle’s personal vehicle.
He was promptly arrested again—this time by the Assistant Chief of Operations Bureau and a Major Crimes Sergeant—and booked on a new charge: Burglary of a Vehicle.
In a tongue-in-cheek statement, officials noted that Lewis earned “a shiny new $1,500 bond” and an upgraded stay at the “Doolittle Bed & Breakfast,” complete with three meals a day and “a bunk with a view.”
