In a horrifying case of sexual violence, four more individuals were arrested on Thursday in connection with the gang rape of a Dalit minor girl in Pathanamthitta district. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 56, officials confirmed.
The arrests were carried out by the Elavumthitta police team as part of an ongoing investigation that has shocked the state. The accused have been identified as Akhil, Vijith, Rahul Raju, and Sooraj — all local residents.
Authorities stated that the case involves 59 accused individuals, with repeated incidents of sexual assault reported over a period of time. According to police sources, two of the remaining suspects are currently believed to be abroad, while one is still at large within the local area.
The minor victim, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste (Dalit) community, was allegedly abused by multiple perpetrators. The case has triggered widespread outrage and calls for strict action under the POCSO Act and SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Investigations are ongoing, and the police are coordinating with various agencies to track down the remaining suspects.
