Dakota Jolley Sentenced to 30 Years for Domestic Assault

Rapid City man pleads Alford in violent domestic incidents

by Sophia Bennett

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Dakota Jolley, 28, of Rapid City, has been sentenced to a total of 30 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary after entering an Alford guilty plea to three counts of aggravated assault-domestic violence.

Jolley entered the plea in October, which allows a defendant to maintain innocence while acknowledging that evidence would likely lead to a conviction. The charges stem from two incidents of strangulation and one in which Jolley allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at the victim while she was holding a small child. Video evidence of the handgun incident was submitted in court.

Jolley was previously sentenced to ten years in federal prison on a gun-related charge. That federal sentence will be served concurrently with the 30-year state sentence.
