Two individuals have been arrested following a deadly shooting in Columbia over the weekend, according to police.
Authorities say Daequon Cole and Chelsy Kyzer were taken into custody in connection with the incident, which occurred late Friday on Assembly Street.
Officers with the Columbia Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital, where she later died.
Investigators believe the shooting followed an argument between Cole and the victim. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police also noted that Cole has a prior conviction from 2015 for accessory after the fact of murder in an unrelated case.
Kyzer, identified as Cole’s girlfriend, has been charged with accessory after the fact. Authorities allege she assisted him in attempting to avoid arrest after the shooting.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Cole is being held without bond, while Kyzer’s bond has been set at $10,000.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released.
