The Cuttack Commissionerate Police have apprehended a notorious chain-snatching gang operating in the city.
Chauliaganj Police arrested three individuals — gang leader Bishal Mallik and two receivers of stolen goods, Prabhakar Samant and Harekrushna Sahoo.
Police said Mallik was involved in a chain-snatching incident near Birupa Barrage. Officers recovered seven gold chains weighing around 97 grams along with a motorcycle used during the crimes.
Mallik has a criminal history with six cases registered against him across different police stations in Cuttack. A special 13-member investigation team, led by ACP Arun Swain, handled the case. Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari described the arrests as a major success in curbing street crimes in the city.
