Cuban authorities arrested two men, Raúl Yasniel Guerra Rivero and Adonis Alejandro León Faget, for burglary in the town of Australia, part of the municipality of Jagüey Grande in Matanzas. The pair were accused of stealing appliances and other items from a house in the locality of Elizabet.
According to reports from the Facebook profile “Con Todos La Victoria,” linked to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), Guerra and León took a television, washing machine, induction stove with pan, weights, and other valuables from the home. The stolen items were later discovered in the homes of both suspects and will be returned to the victim.
Both men, who reside in Australia, are reportedly unemployed and have criminal records. Guerra, in particular, had previously been tried for theft.
At the end of December, Cuban social media profiles reported another similar case, where three individuals were arrested for stealing products intended for the supply rationing system in the nearby municipality of Pedro Betancourt.
In early December 2024, the Cuban government carried out a nationwide police operation targeting criminal activity and illegalities, resulting in over 3,300 arrests. The operation was part of an effort to crack down on crime and social misconduct, with several trials, including those involving corruption by government officials, reported.
