Alain “N” among Three Arrested for Stealing Refrigerator

by Sophia Bennett

Alain “N”, a 28-year-old Cuban, was arrested in Cancun, Mexico, on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a burglary alongside two Mexican nationals, Amir “N”, 25, and Ricardo “N”, 41. The trio allegedly broke into a residence in the Quintana Roo area and stole a refrigerator.

Details of the Crime
The burglary occurred in the Supermanzana 259 neighborhood. The victim immediately reported the theft to the police, leading them to arrest the suspects, who were found with a mini fridge matching the description provided by the victim. The men were detained despite their evasive behavior.

Context on Cuban Immigration
In recent years, tens of thousands of Cubans have arrived in Mexico, fleeing the island’s economic and political issues. While many aim for the U.S., others, like Alain “N”, have chosen to settle in Mexico. Over 11,000 Cubans had applied for asylum by August 2024, according to official reports. Unfortunately, some reports have emerged linking Cuban immigrants to criminal activities, including thefts, kidnappings, and other incidents.
