Cristofer Abreu Arrested for Multiple Motorcycle Scams in Santiago

In Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, authorities have arrested Cristofer Abreu, 19, in connection with several scams involving fraudulent motorcycle purchases in La Vega and surrounding areas. Abreu, who had been wanted since December 2024, was captured by agents from the Subdirectorate of Investigation (Dicrim).

One of the scams occurred on February 11, 2025, when a man was tricked into selling his TVS Apache RTR 200 motorcycle for RD$135,000 after receiving a fake bank transfer receipt. Another incident took place on February 19, when Abreu, posing as a buyer on Facebook Marketplace, stole a Super Tucán ST250GY-C7 motorcycle after requesting a test drive.

Investigations also link Abreu to a December 2024 scam in which a woman handed over her Honda XR-650L motorcycle to two individuals after receiving a fraudulent bank receipt.

Abreu was transferred to La Vega and is now in the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities are urging citizens to verify payments before handing over goods and to report any fraud attempts.
