GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) — A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road rage shooting in Hot Springs.
On September 3, the Hot Springs Police Department responded to a shooting report on the 4300 block of Central Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Michael Mahan lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 45-year-old Cristapher Jonathon Zuetlau, was detained nearby and taken to the police station. The Criminal Investigation Division then took over the case.
Investigators determined the shooting followed a road rage confrontation between Mahan and Zuetlau while driving south on Central Avenue. The dispute escalated when both vehicles stopped at Central Avenue and Corporate Terrace, leading to a physical fight. During the altercation, Zuetlau allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Mahan.
Zuetlau faces charges of first-degree murder, terroristic act, first-degree criminal mischief, and discharging a firearm within city limits. He remains in custody at the Garland County Detention Center without bond.
