In a major breakthrough, Crime Branch Unit 2 has busted an interstate burglary gang by arresting two habitual offenders from Gujarat and recovering stolen gold and silver jewellery valued at approximately Rs7.4 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Azad Singh alias Dhanari Madhusingh Tak (33) and Ajay Singh alias Mamu Bhurasingh Dudhani (28).
During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to involvement in a series of house-breaking and theft cases across Thane and adjoining areas. The recovered jewellery played a crucial role in solving several pending cases.
Police officials reported that the investigation helped detect six criminal cases registered at different police stations:
Narpoli Police Station: Four FIRs (three in 2026, one in 2025) under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections on house-breaking and theft
Kongaon Police Station: One case in 2025
Virar Police Station: One case in 2023
Further investigation is ongoing to determine if the accused are linked to additional offences elsewhere in the state.
Context of Rising High-Value Burglaries
The arrest comes amid another high-value burglary reported earlier this week in south Mumbai. Unidentified persons broke into government residential quarters at the Income Tax Colony on Carmichael Road, stealing gold jewellery and cash worth nearly Rs19.65 lakh from the residence of a senior Customs officer. The incident occurred while the officer and family were out of town, raising concerns about the security of even guarded residential complexes.
