The Crime Branch has made another arrest in the ongoing investigation of the police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination scam, detaining Chandan Mallick from Ransahi Panchayat in Balasore district.
Chandan, who portrayed himself as a social worker involved in local activities, was arrested late last night and is scheduled to be presented before the Berhampur JMFC Rural Court today. His arrest raises the total number of individuals held in connection with the scam to 120.
Earlier, the Crime Branch apprehended Arvind Das from Nabara village, also in Balasore. Initially raided at his ancestral home, Arvind was later tracked down in Rajpur village, Jaleswar. Investigators are examining whether Arvind directly collected money from candidates or served as an intermediary for brokers. Following his arrest, he was denied bail and remanded to judicial custody, with several incriminating documents seized from him.
Before these arrests, Biswaranjan Behera from Barang police station area, Bhubaneswar, was taken into custody, marking the tally at 119.
Meanwhile, interrogation continues for Guptaranjan Nayak, a resident near Polsara Post Office, who operated a computer institute suspected of facilitating a police SI exam center at Shandha Sahi–Shriramnagar.
The Crime Branch persists in its efforts to unravel the extensive network behind this recruitment scam, exposing serious irregularities and fraudulent practices in the selection process.
