MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) — Courtney Rogers, 37, was booked into Metro Jail Monday night on two counts of harassing communications, after allegedly targeting two witnesses involved in an internal investigation of her husband, former Mobile Police Sergeant Gary Rogers.
According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Rogers is accused of harassing individuals who cooperated with the investigation into her husband’s conduct at the scene of a fatal crash involving their son, Dawson Rogers.
Gary Rogers was fired from the MPD on June 6, following a complaint about his behavior at the crash scene. However, officials have not confirmed if the firing was directly related to the complaint.
On June 7, one of the victims informed authorities that Courtney Rogers had posted their prior arrest records and criminal charges on social media. That person had reportedly assisted Alabama State Troopers at the crash scene in November and later spoke with MPD’s Internal Affairs Unit regarding Gary Rogers’ conduct.
Court documents reveal that a second witness was also targeted. Investigators say Rogers posted explicit images of the witness online, including a photo of their breast, in an attempt to intimidate them.
The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office advised that the proper charge in both incidents was harassing communications.
The underlying investigation stems from a deadly wreck in which Dawson Rogers was initially charged with manslaughter. Prosecutors say he was intoxicated and speeding when he caused the crash that killed Nolan McDavid. In March, the DA’s office upgraded Dawson Rogers’ charge to murder.
Authorities are continuing to investigate whether anyone else may have played a role in efforts to intimidate or retaliate against witnesses.
