The Kovilpalayam police in Coimbatore arrested a couple on charges of stealing Rs9 lakh from their own residence and staging a fake theft. R. Umashankar (47), a resident of Kovilpalayam, had filed a complaint on October 18, stating that Rs9 lakh had been stolen from his house while he, his wife, and their daughter were out for work. When they returned home, they found the front door broken open and the cash missing. However, after further investigation, the police uncovered that the theft had been staged by the couple themselves.
