Kumurambheem Asifabad police have arrested two more individuals in a human trafficking case, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to eight. Among those apprehended is Kameri Haridas, a serving police constable.
The newly arrested have been identified as:
Basher Surekha, from Dabla village in Madhya Pradesh
Ganshyam Prajapathi, a native of Boath
According to police, the gang lured poor families from the district by proposing marriages with allegedly well-off men from Madhya Pradesh. Once trust was gained and the victims sent away, the women were exploited—first forced into agricultural labor, and later in some cases, sold to brothels.
In one case, a woman from Dum village was trafficked over 12 years ago and remains untraceable. In another, a victim was sold for Rs1.10 lakh but managed to escape and return home, eventually lodging a police complaint.
In yet another instance, a woman from a vulnerable community was sold for Rs1.30 lakh and allegedly forced into immoral activities. Police investigations also revealed the victims were sometimes identified years later through Aadhaar data and reunited with families.
Superintendent of Police Kanthi Lal Patil confirmed that ten suspects have been named, with eight arrested so far. The remaining two—Bashar Ramesh Goud and Soni Jagadesh, both from Madhya Pradesh—are currently absconding.
Constable Kameri Haridas has been named in two separate FIRs at the Asifabad police station for his alleged role in facilitating the trafficking racket.
