Chadayamangalam excise officers arrested Sachin, 31, a Congress party executive committee member from Kummil, during a night patrol in Kadakkal on Tuesday. Officers found 1.25 kg of ganja in his possession after a brief chase when he tried to flee.
Excise inspector Rajesh A K stated that Sachin was previously under surveillance due to complaints about his role as a key drug supplier in the area. “During earlier raids, he narrowly escaped, but we have been keeping a close watch on him,” he added.
Authorities seized Sachin’s mobile phone to investigate possible connections with a wider drug network. Although this is his first arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, intelligence suggests his involvement in local drug trafficking.
Sachin has been charged under Section 22(b) II(b) of the NDPS Act and was remanded to judicial custody following his court appearance.
