On Wednesday, Mukesh Nayak, the President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Media Department, raised significant questions regarding the arrest of Saurav Sharma, a former transport constable. Nayak highlighted a perceived inconsistency in the handling of arrests related to major political figures in India. He pointed out that leaders such as Manish Sisodia and Hemant Soren were arrested first, and then chargesheets were filed, whereas former ministers and officials in Madhya Pradesh have not been arrested in connection with the ongoing Saurav Sharma transport scam case.
Nayak pointed out that while Lokayukta police had taken Saurav Sharma on remand, a separate investigation was being conducted by the ED (Enforcement Directorate). He suggested that the authorities seemed to be preparing to make Sharma a government witness, indicating a potential cover-up of the case.
Nayak further demanded the arrest of former transport ministers Govind Singh Rajput and Bhupendra Singh Thakur, as well as all transport commissioners who were in the department during the time of the scam. Govind Singh Rajput, currently the cabinet minister for food and civil supplies, was accused of being involved in the scandal.
He raised concerns over the irregularity in appointments, citing how Saurav Sharma was arrested only after a delay of 41 days, despite returning to India from Dubai on January 23, 2025. Nayak questioned who had provided protection to Sharma during his stay in India, stating that this matter warranted investigation.
