COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Columbia Police Department reported an active holiday weekend responding to several serious incidents in the city.

Teen Detained After Shooting

Around 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 26, officers responded to the 3800 block of Triple Crown Drive following a shooting. Authorities found Edward Brown Jr., 46, with gunshot wounds. He later died, and next of kin were notified. A 15-year-old suspect was detained in connection with the shooting.

ATM Theft Suspect Arrested

Columbia police acted on a tip from Pennsylvania authorities regarding a suspect allegedly involved in an ATM “jackpotting” scheme, where machines are hacked to dispense cash. Antoni Jesus Garcia-Cordoba, 42, of North Carolina, was arrested at a short-term rental in Columbia. Police executed a search warrant and reportedly found evidence related to the scheme.

Court documents from Pennsylvania show Garcia-Cordoba faces two counts of corrupt organization employee and two counts of theft by unlawful taking from immovable property. Authorities did not confirm whether he is linked to other ATM theft suspects arrested in Colorado.

Barricaded Suspect Leads to SWAT Call

On Nov. 29, a shooting was reported in the 5600 block of Lightpost Court. Investigation led police to Rodquel Jones, 21, of Columbia, who allegedly barricaded himself in his home on Sievelle Avenue. The SWAT team was called to the scene.

Jones was arrested and faces charges including felony stealing, felony resisting arrest, armed criminal action, first-degree harassment, and unlawful use of a weapon. A search warrant reportedly uncovered additional evidence related to the incident.

The Columbia Police Department acknowledged the assistance of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Columbia Fire Department, Boone County Fire Department, Columbia Transit, University Hospital, and residents for their cooperation during the incidents.
