A Colorado Springs man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly starting a fire in a business complex stairway and then attacking a security guard who confronted him.
Police responded to the disturbance near Tejon and Colorado just before 1:30 a.m. and found the suspect, identified as Victor Gregory, fighting with the security guard. Investigators later learned that the security guard had approached Gregory due to the fire, which only caused cosmetic damage to the building.
The altercation escalated, and Gregory attacked the security guard before being detained by officers. The guard suffered only minor injuries. Gregory was arrested and charged with arson and assault.
Authorities have not disclosed the name of the business impacted by the incident.
