DUNN COUNTY, Wis. — A Colorado man was arrested Monday after a string of vehicle thefts and break-ins across the Colfax area, according to the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incidents began on Oct. 13 around 11 a.m., when the Colfax Police Department, assisted by deputies, responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Bloomer that was pinging via GPS at a Colfax address. Officers located the vehicle, but it was unoccupied, and no suspects were found nearby.
The next day, Oct. 14, at approximately 10:27 a.m., police received a report of a second stolen vehicle from a local business. Reviewing squad car footage, deputies saw that the vehicle had been captured on camera along County Highway M about 20 minutes before the theft was reported.
An image of the vehicle was circulated, and around 11:04 a.m., deputies spotted it on 670th Street near State Highway 170 in the Town of Tainter. Backup officers arrived shortly after, and a traffic stop was conducted at 11:13 a.m.
The driver, identified as Christopher P. Barr, 31, of Colorado, was arrested without incident. Investigators linked Barr to both stolen vehicles, as well as break-ins at Synergy Gas Station and a camper in Colfax the previous night.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and formal charges are expected to be filed soon.
