ACCRA, Ghana (WMC) — Collins Acquah, a former assistant manager at the Chicken Inn Pizza Inn joint at Accra Mall, has been sentenced to five years of hard labor for stealing Ghc 19,904 from the company’s vaults.

The theft occurred around the Christmas period last year when Acquah, who had access to the vault, took the money and fled to Cape Coast to avoid detection. After the theft, the management of Chicken Inn reported the incident to the Airport Police, who launched a manhunt for Acquah.

Upon his arrest, Acquah pleaded guilty to the charges and explained that he stole the money to cover gambling debts. The presiding judge convicted Acquah based on his guilty plea and sentenced him to five years in prison with hard labor.

The conviction highlights the consequences of theft in the workplace and serves as a reminder of the legal repercussions of such crimes.
