CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – 18-year-old Finn Etters, a student at the College of Charleston, was arrested early Saturday morning after officers conducted a search at a campus residence hall, leading to a large drug bust.
The incident began around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21, when the Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a complaint about a disturbance at McConnell Residence Hall. The complaint alleged that a group of people on the fourth-floor balcony had been shouting racial slurs and profanities at people on the street below.
Upon arriving, DPS officers found a room with its door open and multiple beer cans in plain sight. They spoke with the six individuals inside, including Etters, and determined they were all under the legal drinking age. When officers entered Etters’ room, they smelled marijuana and Etters admitted to possessing it, producing a large mason jar filled with the substance.
Further investigation revealed additional drugs in Etters’ room. Officers found amphetamines, electronic smoking devices, and several other items. They also uncovered a stash of drugs for distribution, including:
Half a pound of marijuana
35 grams of psilocybin mushrooms
10 bags of edibles
8 THC vape pods
A small tin with MDMA doses
115 THC vaporizers
Over $200 in cash
Etters was charged with several drug possession and distribution offenses, including the possession of schedule I, II, and IV drugs with intent to distribute. He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center on $25,700 bond and was later released.
Following his release, Etters was banned from campus temporarily by College of Charleston student affairs and was escorted back to his dorm to collect personal belongings.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
