A 38-year-old thief, Pugalvasan, was arrested by Chithode police early on Saturday after he was caught in possession of half a kilogram of gold and $18,000 in cash. The arrest took place during a vehicle check on the Coimbatore-Salem National Highway near Chithode. The suspect, a resident of Singanallur, Coimbatore, was on his way back to his hometown from Hyderabad after committing a robbery.

The arrest followed a tip-off from the Hyderabad police, who had informed local authorities that a thief from Coimbatore had committed a robbery in their jurisdiction and was travelling back home with stolen goods. The stolen gold and foreign currency were recovered during the vehicle check, and Pugalvasan couldn’t provide any legitimate documents regarding the origin of the items.

Upon interrogation, Pugalvasan admitted to being involved in the Hyderabad robbery, where he stole gold and cash. The Chithode police seized the stolen items, and arrangements are being made to hand him over to the Hyderabad police for further investigation.
