Cody Dwayne Vann Sentenced to 53 Years for Murder

Vann pleaded guilty to killing 18-year-old Arthur Orosco

JASPER, Texas (KTRE) – An 18-year-old Jasper man has been sentenced to 53 years in prison for the murder of Arthur Logan Orosco, also 18, from Buna.

Cody Dwayne Vann pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting during a court appearance on Monday before State District Judge Craig Mixson, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.

The crime occurred on July 10, 2024, when Vann shot Orosco and then left his body along Highway 96 in Buna, directly in front of a tractor store. Following a swift investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office, Vann was arrested within hours of the incident.

The sentencing brings some closure to a tragic case that shocked the local community.
