BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Clifton Embry, a 20-year-old man from Bowling Green, has been arrested on vehicle theft charges following a collision with a deer over the weekend.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call early Sunday morning just before 8 a.m., regarding a vehicle that had crashed and was left in a front yard along the 7200 block of Russellville Road. Upon arrival, deputies noticed a dead deer on the road and found a vehicle with deer hair and blood on its back. It appeared the vehicle had struck the deer, lost control, and veered off the highway.
The vehicle continued through a ditch, hit a curb, and came to rest in a yard. Deputies identified Clifton Embry as the driver after reviewing trail camera photos.
Deputies later spoke to the vehicle’s owner, who confirmed she knew Embry but had not given him permission to drive her car. When they located Embry inside the residence, he was wearing the same clothes as seen in the photos. Embry initially claimed to be a passenger, but the deployment of only the driver’s side airbags suggested otherwise. Additionally, an empty alcoholic beverage container was found in the car.
Embry was arrested and taken to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for clearance before being transported to the Warren County Regional Jail. He faces multiple charges, including:
Theft by unlawful taking of an auto ($10,000 to $1,000,000)
Possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle
Failure to report a traffic accident
Driving on a DUI-suspended license
Alteration or concealment of identity from ignition interlock device (first offense)
Second-degree criminal mischief
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
