Clearwater — A Clearwater man is accused of stealing more than $100 worth of sausage from a Walmart store on U.S. 19 after allegedly hiding the items inside a backpack, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies say Kinte Jenkins, 43, entered the store on the morning of Feb. 22 with an empty shopping cart and a backpack placed on the lower rack.

According to investigators, Jenkins allegedly loaded 20 packages of sausage into the cart before moving to an area out of view of surveillance cameras.

A short time later, he reappeared wearing the backpack and left the store without paying, deputies said. Authorities say Jenkins then rode away from the store on a bicycle.

Officials said the stolen merchandise totaled $104.80. Jenkins was later arrested and charged with petit theft and trespassing.
