POSEY COUNTY, Ind. (WFIE/Gray News) – A 69-year-old man from Alabama is facing a felony drug charge after deputies in Posey County discovered hundreds of pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.
Authorities say they were called to assist a stranded motorist on Interstate 64 near mile marker 4 when they encountered Clarance Shipman.
Upon inspecting his van, deputies discovered several large trash bags in the cargo bay filled with marijuana. A full search of the vehicle uncovered 800 pounds of marijuana and synthetic marijuana, with an estimated street value of $1 million, according to law enforcement.
Shipman reportedly told officers he was transporting the drugs from Los Angeles to North Carolina.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Posey County Jail, where he is charged with felony dealing in marijuana.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
