City police made a significant breakthrough on Monday by busting a gang that had been stealing mobile phones from devotees traveling to the Khatu Shyamji fair. The police arrested four individuals at the Sindhi Camp bus stand: Imran Khan (33), Arvind alias Goswami (40), Vijay Thakur (40), and Indrajeet Gurjar (21).
The authorities recovered 11 mobile phones from their possession. The arrests followed two separate FIRs filed by victims Shankar Hazra and Naresh Kumawat on March 9. They reported that their phones were stolen the previous night while they waited at platform no. 2 for a bus. According to their statements, a young man swiftly snatched the phones from their pockets. When the victims attempted to stop him, three other men armed with iron knives and screwdrivers threatened them.
In their complaint, the victims mentioned that the suspects referred to each other by their names – Imran, Arvind, Vijay, and Indrajit – which helped police trace the gang. Authorities noted that mobile phone and purse thefts had surged at the bus stand, coinciding with the increased number of people attending the fair.
The police formed a special team to handle the case, and after analyzing CCTV footage and conducting surveillance, they were able to identify and apprehend the culprits. According to an official, the swift police action resulted in the successful arrest of the gang members.
