In a routine patrolling operation, City Crime Branch police arrested a man in possession of illegal drugs near Sanjay Setu parking area. Officials recovered 36.39 grams of brown sugar from him, with an estimated international market value of Rs3.7 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Devilal Meena, a resident of Pratapgarh district in Rajasthan. According to Additional DCP (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya, Meena admitted during questioning that he purchased the drugs at a lower price and sold them to addicts in the city to earn profit.
Police said the arrest was part of their continuous drive against drug trafficking in the city. Meena was spotted acting suspiciously during patrolling, and a search led to the recovery of the narcotics along with a two-wheeler used to transport the drugs.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the source of the drugs and uncover the wider trafficking network spanning Rajasthan and the state.
