In a major drug bust, a City Crime Branch (CCB) team, led by Inspector Daya Nayak, arrested two individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, in Matunga on Tuesday. The accused were found in possession of 5.4 kg of Mephedrone (MD), a synthetic drug, worth Rs10 crore.

The arrested individuals were identified as Jahangir Shaikh (29) and Senaul Shaikh. Acting on a credible tip-off, Unit 9 of the City Crime Branch laid a trap at Room No. 309 of a hotel in Matunga, where the duo was caught with the commercial quantity of MD. A criminal case was registered at the Matunga police station, and the investigation was handed over to Unit 9.

This successful operation is part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in Mumbai, where drugs like Mephedrone continue to be a serious concern.

In a separate operation, Malwani police arrested two students who were caught with various drugs, including Ecstasy and LSD, with a combined worth of Rs10 lakh. Both individuals have been booked under the NDPS Act as the police continue their efforts to combat the growing issue of drug abuse in the city.
