Cibolo Police Arrest Daniel Avila in Connection with Mailbox Thefts

Daniel Avila faces multiple charges for stealing from community mailboxes

Cibolo, Texas – Cibolo Police have arrested Daniel Avila, 40, of San Antonio, in connection with a series of community mailbox thefts. Authorities issued 31 arrest warrants for Avila, who is believed to be responsible for break-ins at 16 community mailboxes.

Avila was apprehended on March 31, 2025, in San Antonio by the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the San Antonio Police Department. The arrest followed an investigation that utilized multiple resources, including the Flock ALPR system, which captured photos of a suspect vehicle during the thefts.

After Avila’s arrest, search warrants were executed at his residence and vehicle, leading to the discovery of additional evidence related to mail theft and credit card fraud.

Avila faces 16 counts of Criminal Mischief (Class B Misdemeanors) and 15 counts of Theft of Mail (State Jail Felonies). Additionally, authorities served two active misdemeanor arrest warrants and six felony warrants from Bexar County. His total bond has been set at $243,600.

The investigation is ongoing, with the potential for further arrests or updates. Cibolo Police Detectives are working closely with other law enforcement agencies, including the Bulverde Police Department and San Antonio Police Department, as Avila is also a suspect in similar mailbox thefts in other areas.

Authorities praised the efforts of the Cibolo Police Officers, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, San Antonio Police Department, and the U.S. Postal Inspector for their cooperation and diligence in solving the case.
