HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Huntsville man is in custody following a shooting early Sunday morning that left another man in critical condition, according to the Huntsville Police Department (HPD).

At around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Jordan Lane. Upon arrival, they located the suspect — 26-year-old Christopher Devaughn Spencer — in the parking lot near the scene.

Nearby, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

According to HPD, the two men were acquainted, and an argument escalated into violence when Spencer allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim.

Spencer was taken into custody at the scene and later booked into the Madison County Jail. He is charged with first-degree assault (non-family, gun) and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

The Huntsville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
