CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – A Cullman County man has been arrested and charged with financial fraud after allegedly stealing a woman’s debit card information and using it to pay for personal expenses.

According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Melvin used his cellphone to discreetly record debit card details while at the Love’s Travel Stop on County Road 222 on June 13. Investigators say he later used the stolen card information to pay an electric bill online.

Just a few days later, on June 16, Melvin allegedly used the same debit card information to book a room at a Days Inn on 4th Street in Cullman.

Melvin was arrested on July 31 and booked into the Cullman County Jail. He faces charges related to unauthorized use of payment information and identity theft.

The investigation remains ongoing.
