McKINNEY, Texas — A McKinney Independent School District (ISD) employee was arrested Monday after police discovered narcotics in his vehicle during a routine safety sweep at McKinney Boyd High School, officials said.

According to McKinney ISD, local law enforcement conducted the sweep using a drug-detection K-9, which alerted officers to the employee’s car. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found drugs and took the suspect into custody.

Police identified the individual as 27-year-old Christopher Hawkins, who was booked into the Collin County Jail on Monday.

In a letter to parents, McKinney ISD described the incident as “unexpected and deeply disappointing,” emphasizing the district’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.

Hawkins, a first-year employee, had passed all standard background checks before being hired. The district’s website lists him as a science teacher as well as a football and baseball coach.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The State Board of Educator Certification has also been notified, district officials said.
