Harris County, TX – A 42-year-old man was arrested in Spring on Monday after a dramatic escape attempt during a suspected copper theft. Christopher Fry is facing charges of felony theft and evading arrest after fleeing on foot into a heavily wooded area.
The incident began when deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a call about a possible copper theft on Spring Stuebner Road. Upon arrival, authorities saw a box truck leaving the scene and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, Fry, the driver, jumped out of the truck and ran into the nearby woods along the service road.
In an effort to quickly locate Fry, deputies deployed a K-9, R.E. Moore, and utilized drones for aerial surveillance. The drone assisted in guiding K-9 and deputy teams to Fry’s location. Despite commands to surrender, Fry refused to comply, and after a brief standoff, he was apprehended following a K-9 bite.
Fry was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the arrest. He was later booked on charges of evading arrest and felony theft. His bond was set at $40,100.
