SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — A routine driver’s license checkpoint in Scottsboro resulted in an arrest and drug charges after police found an active warrant and suspected narcotics, according to the Scottsboro Police Department.
The checkpoint took place March 25 along the 16000 block of Highway 35 with assistance from ALEA and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. During the operation, officers stopped a vehicle and identified a passenger with an active felony warrant from Blount County.
K-9 Amp was deployed and alerted on the vehicle, giving officers probable cause to conduct a search. Investigators found drug paraphernalia and a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
The passenger, Christopher George Burgett, 47, of Altoona, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence.
The driver was cited for failure to display proof of insurance and released at the scene, authorities said.
