CHICO, Calif. — A Chico man has been arrested following a stabbing early Wednesday morning at Depot Park. Officers from the Chico Police Department responded around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing at the park.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Police rendered aid until Chico Fire Department personnel and Butte County EMS medics arrived on the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery. He remains in critical but stable condition.
Detectives launched an investigation and quickly identified 35-year-old Christian Roberts of Chico as the suspect. Around 12:30 p.m., a detective spotted Roberts in an open field near the 1200 block of Humboldt Avenue. As officers closed in, Roberts initially attempted to flee but ultimately surrendered without incident.
Roberts was arrested on an outstanding California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) parole warrant and booked on charges of attempted murder. He is currently held at the Butte County Jail. The case has been referred to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for further action.
