Christian Madsen, a 31-year-old Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) employee, has been arrested on multiple felony charges for allegedly falsifying his timecards and receiving $14,000 in unearned overtime pay, JSO Sheriff T.K. Waters announced Thursday.
Waters said Madsen, who had served at JSO for over a decade, faces third-degree felony charges including grand theft, organized fraud, and official misconduct. He was immediately suspended following his arrest and no longer has police authority, with the agency seeking his termination.
According to the sheriff, the JSO Integrity Unit received information on February 12 that Madsen had submitted falsified overtime claims for traffic enforcement work he did not perform. Investigators say that between December 1, 2025, and February 7, 2026, Madsen systematically claimed compensation for over 200 hours of overtime he did not complete, resulting in unjust enrichment of more than $14,000.
Waters emphasized that the fraudulent payments came from both the City of Jacksonville and state FDOT grant reimbursements. “The cumulative nature of Madsen’s conduct demonstrates a deliberate ongoing course of criminal behavior, rather than a reflection of an administrative error or isolated accident,” he said.
This arrest marks the second JSO employee apprehended by the agency in 2026. The investigation remains ongoing.
