LAVONIA, Ga. — A man is in custody following a deadly shooting at a Lavonia apartment complex that left one person dead Monday morning.
At 8:53 a.m., officers with the Lavonia Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the Clear Creek Apartments on Clubhouse Way. Upon arrival, they found a deceased man inside an apartment in building 200. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Eric Thompson.
Witnesses at the scene gave police a description of the suspect, and a regional alert was issued through Franklin County 911 Dispatch. Shortly afterward, a Georgia State Patrol trooper located a man matching the description walking near a local hotel.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Christavier Mikequez “Quez” Brown, was arrested without incident and taken to the Franklin County Detention Center.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called in to assist with processing the crime scene.
Brown now faces several serious charges:
Aggravated assault
Felony murder
Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
Tampering with evidence
The investigation remains active.
