In a significant breakthrough against property crimes, Chittoor district police successfully cracked two separate cases involving chain snatching and house burglary, arresting three accused from Tamil Nadu. The police recovered gold ornaments, cash, and vehicles valued at nearly Rs 33.77 lakh during the operations.
Superintendent of Police VN Manikanta Chandolu said the arrests were made possible by close coordination between Chittoor I Town and NR Peta police teams, operating under DSP T Sainath’s supervision. He highlighted the increasing challenge posed by interstate criminals crossing district borders.
In the first operation, two men belonging to an interstate chain-snatching gang were arrested near Reliance Mart in Chamantipuram early Sunday. The accused were identified as R Amsayusan (26) from Mettupalayam and Mohammed Pitha (25) from Dindigul district. The duo targeted lone women in isolated areas and were involved in at least eight chain snatching cases across Chittoor I Town, Chittoor Rural, Punganur, V Kota, and Madanapalle. Police seized 192 grams of gold ornaments worth about Rs 20 lakh and two motorcycles valued at Rs 3 lakh from them.
In a separate case, NR Peta police arrested G Prashanth (26), a driver from Ranipet district, wanted for multiple burglaries. The arrest followed investigations into a complaint about a house break-in in Bangareddypalli Harijanawada on August 22. Prashanth admitted to three burglaries across Penumur (2024), Chittoor Rural (2025), and NR Peta (2025). Police recovered 109 grams of gold jewelry worth Rs 10.35 lakh and Rs 42,000 cash from him. The stolen items included chains, rings, bangles, and earrings.
SP Manikanta praised the use of surveillance, technology, and interstate coordination in solving these cases and assured that preventive measures will be intensified to curb chain snatching and burglaries in the district.
