CHINO HILLS, Calif. (CBS12) — A Chino Hills man with an extensive criminal history was arrested on Sunday after allegedly stealing items from a Costco store in Chino Hills. Authorities responded to the theft in progress around 5 p.m., according to a media release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Thomas Weaver, was quickly detained by deputies at the scene. While the specific items he was reportedly stealing were not disclosed, Weaver was found to be in possession of stolen goods at the time of his arrest.
Weaver, who has a long history of petty theft convictions, was found to have several active warrants for his arrest. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on charges of first-degree burglary and petty theft with more than two prior convictions.
His court date is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
In addition, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBSD) noted that due to the passage of Proposition 36 last month, Weaver will now face increased penalties for theft and drug charges. This law aims to impose stricter penalties on repeat offenders.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts to address repeat theft crimes, with law enforcement agencies continuing to take action against individuals with extensive criminal records.
