Thai police are investigating the roadside shooting death of 33-year-old Liser, a member of a northern minority group, in Mae Fah Luang district, Chiang Rai province, with growing suspicion surrounding his wife, 45-year-old Pimnipa.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, when officers from Mae Fah Luang Police Station received a report of a man found dead near the Mae Mor community. Liser was found with eight gunshot wounds—six to his body and two to his chest—along with bruises, scratches, and a deep laceration on his elbow. His white motorcycle was at the scene, but 10,000 baht in cash was missing.
Liser, who was not a Thai national, legally resided in Thailand and held an official ID card issued to recognized minority group members.
His wife, Pimnipa, told police they had argued over cooking before Liser left to visit friends. According to those friends, Liser drank with them before leaving on his motorcycle. They claim to have heard gunshots and tried to call him afterward—but didn’t check outside when he didn’t respond.
Investigators are considering multiple angles, including a possible gang-related killing. Police revealed that Liser was involved in drug trafficking and other illegal activities, suggesting a criminal dispute might have led to his murder.
Suspicion has also fallen on Pimnipa, who allegedly withheld two of Liser’s mobile phones from authorities and reportedly asked her daughter to delete the call histories. Liser’s friends are also said to have erased their call logs, which has obstructed the investigation.
In an interview with Amarin TV, Pimnipa claimed she was in shock and had no intention of obstructing justice. “I didn’t know what to do after his death,” she said, denying any role in destroying evidence.
Despite the suspicious behavior, no definitive evidence currently links Pimnipa to the murder. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and they are working to identify the shooter and clarify the motive.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
